چکیده

We present new narrow-band imaging and optical spectroscopy of Wolf-Rayet stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy IC10 (Gemini-N GMOS) and Sculptor group spiral galaxy NGC300 (VLT FORS2). 1. Gemini-N GMOS observations of IC10 IC10 is a moderately reddened dwarf irregular (or blue compact dwarf) at a distance of 0.9Mpc, with a metal content of log(O/H) 8:2 and an unusually high WC/WN ratio of 2, versus <0.1 in the SMC (e.g. Massey & Armandroo 1995). In the light of recent suggestions that IC10 also hosts WC9 stars (Royer et al. 2001), hitherto known only towards our Galactic Centre, we have obtained spectroscopy of candidate WR stars in IC10 using GMOS mounted at Gemini-N during 2001 December{2002 January. Together with recent CFHT-MOS spectroscopy from 2001 October, we have spectroscopically observed 28/30 WR candidates in IC10, connrming 15 WC stars and 9 WN stars, such that the WC/WN ratio remains remarkably high. All of the WC stars have spectral type WC4, except for WR10 (Massey & Armandroo 1995) which has a WC7 spectral type, and unusually broad line widths, 3000 km s ?1. None of the three candidate WC9 stars are connrmed as genuine WR stars.

Chandra observations of the massive star - forming region S 106 X - ray emission from the embedded massive protostellar object IRS 4

We present Chandra observations of the massive star-forming region S106, a prominent H  region in Cygnus, associated with an extended molecular cloud and a young cluster. The nebula is excited by a single young massive star located at the center of the molecular cloud and the embedded cluster. The prominence of the cluster in the Chandra observation presented here confirms its youth and allow...

Core–Halo Structure of a Chemically Homogeneous Massive Star and Bending of the Zero–Age Main–Sequence

We have recalculated the interior structure of very massive stars of uniform chemical composition with the OPAL opacity. Very massive stars are found to develop a core–halo structure with an extended radiative–envelope. With the core–halo structure, because a more massive star has a more extended envelope, the track of the upper zero–age main-sequence (ZAMS) curves redward in the H–R diagram at...

Core - Halo Structure of Chemically Homogeneous Massive Star and Bending of Zero - Age Main - Sequence

We have recalculated interior structure of very massive stars of uniform chemical composition with the OPAL opacity. Very massive stars are found to develop a core-halo structure with an extended radiativeenvelope. With the core-halo structure, a more massive star has a more extended envelope, then the track of upper zero-age main-sequence (ZAMS) curves redward in the H-R diagram at > 100M (Z =...

Coupled mass and angular momentum loss of massive main sequence stars

We investigate the interaction of mass loss and rotation during core hydrogen burning in massive stars. We compute their main sequence evolution assuming rigid rotation, and carry angular momentum as a passive quantity in the stellar interior but incorporate its effect on the stellar mass loss rate. We consider the example of a 60M star assuming various initial rotation rates. We show that rota...

Hyperfast pulsars as the remnants of massive stars ejected from young star clusters

Recent proper motion and parallax measurements for the pulsar PSR B1508+55 indicate a transverse velocity of ∼ 1 100 kms, which exceeds earlier measurements for any neutron star. The spin-down characteristics of PSR B1508+55 are typical for a non-recycled pulsar, which implies that the velocity of the pulsar cannot have originated from the second supernova disruption of a massive binary system....
